About Us

When someone thinks of a brewer, they probably don’t picture a petite woman with red pigtails.  But with Tonya Cornett’s amazing beers and growing collection of medals, things may change.  From farm to consumption, women are fighting their way to become some of the most influential people in the craft beer world.   Based in the Pacific NW, The Love of Beer  follows these inspirational women as they struggle to end stereotypes, handle their rising fame, and raise families in a 21 and over lifestyle.  They’re not doing it for feminism or equality—they’re doing it for the love of beer.

Why?

Almost three years ago I impulsively moved from Philadelphia to Portland to live with a guy who was involved with the Portland craft beer industry.   The relationship ended horribly, but I  fell in love with the NW craft beer community-it was unlike anything I had ever seen.  The craft beer community quickly became my second family, and I started incorporating my background in video production by making short videos for friend’s beer blogs, festivals, etc.  I started going to more events and met more and more people in the community and in the industry.  I began to notice a huge disconnect between the vast amount of women beer consumers and the sparse amount of women who worked in the beer industry. After meeting inspirational women like Sarah Pederson, Tonya Cornett, Lisa Morrison, and Teri Fahrendorf, I knew that I had to make a documentary celebrating the amazing women in the industry and introduce others to the community I had fallen in love with.  I’ve had so much support and love along the way, and I can’t thank everyone enough.

Cheers,

Alison Grayson

The Sound

Thanks to musical donations and trades, we’re thrilled to have a combination of originally scores and original songs from local musicians.  All of our musicians perform regularly in the NW and have albums available, so check them out!

The Family

I couldn’t have done this film without the help of Rex, Portland’s premier post and production facility.  If you need any assistance with post production sound, color, or any stage of video production, they’re the place to go.

    Hey Alison,
I just stumbled across your trailer on NW Documentary’s facebook page. I am from PA and lived in Portland for almost 3 years before moving to NC to get my MFA in film. I used to volunteer at NW Doc and miss Portland so much. I just wanted to drop a line and tell you that I loved your trailer and I cant wait to see the whole film! The craft beer community in the NW is amazing! And your film is beautiful!
    Cheers!

      Mariah,

Thanks so much! I lived in PA right before coming to Portland and while I do miss it, I adore Portland. I’ll tell the NW Doc crew that you say hello!

      Laura,
Sorry for the late response! We’re working on making our way up to Canada, either via a film festival or beer event. We hope to have a date locked down in the next couple of months. Cheers!- Alison

Allison – can you please give me a way to contact you via my email? I want to advance your screening at Lagunitas in Petaluma. Thanks!

Really like the trailer tease and would like to help promote women and beer at our local level. How can I find out more?

    • The Love of Beer March 13, 2012 at 7:07 pm #

Steve, Thanks! Where are you located? Most areas have great local chapters of women in beer groups such Girls Pints Out and Barley’s Angels. And you could always host a screening😛

This is so awesome to see. I can’t wait to see the documentary. I myself started a food and beer blog about a year ago and it has been so much fun but I think people are always shocked when I tell them🙂 I am an engineer by trade but a passionate food and beer enthusiast all the time.🙂 so glad to have found this!

    • The Love of Beer February 13, 2013 at 11:46 pm #
